Home Workout Photos and a Sad Day

I got a call about 2:00am this morning letting me know that my grandmother passed away. We did know that it would happen soon but it still isn't easy. She was a goofy, fun loving person but she was ready to move on. She was 92 years old.

I didn't get much sleep after that and was dragging all day long. I came home and took a nap hoping to get some much needed rest and energy and it was awesome. I slept so well after teaching today. I woke up and my wife said, "let's do Subway tonight"; good idea! We did Subway and I don't remember the last time it tasted so good. We ate it while watching the Biggest Loser. I have to admit that I have been going for the underdog black team to lose the most weight because they have lots going against them. It's always fun to watch and it's inspiring to me.

I took some photos of one of my home workouts today. I thought they looked pretty cool. Who knew that a chair and my weight would work as an effective workout?!

Chair dips = 3 sets of 12 dips

Inclined Pushups = 2 sets of 15

Chair lifts = 3 sets of 20

Chair squats = 3 sets of 12

1 MILER ATTEMPT # 2 -- 10 min 52 sec. (lap 1 on pic)

That's cutting 30 seconds off of my last attempt!

Calories: 1739 cal.

Workout: 1.52 miles

Seth, I am so sorry to hear about your grandmother. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and your family during this time. I would love for my grandmother to live to be in her nineties. She is going to be 77 next month, and I couldn't imagine my life without her.

Your wife had the right idea with Subway, we ate the same thing ;)

Your home workouts look amazing! It's always interesting to see what you can do at home without having to sign a gym contract.

Thanks for the comments...I appreciate the feedback.

I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother. My grandma died a month ago and I'm still dealing with it. I'm impressed that you still managed to get your workout in tonight.

Keep going, stay strong.

I am sorry about your gramma. My gramma was grumpy and bitter but I still loved her.
As for your exercises...pretty cool.
I like the whole using your body weight thing.
I think it's more natural.
I know what you mean about having control over aspects other than you...you know, like career and what not..but not over what you put in your mouth.
Feels good to gain some control

So sorry to hear about your lost.

I love your chair workout! Nothing is stopping you! Are you doing the Belly Fat Cure too? I really appreciated your comment today.

@Ella - Thanks, I want to show people that getting fit does not mean that they have to spend money

@Andrew - I did know about your loss too - I've been reading your blog for a couple months or so now...They had given her a year to live a couple, or 3, years ago. She was ready. Thanks for stopping by.

@cmoursler - Using our own body weight can help with body stability. I am not opposed to gyms and such but believe that I can use what I have until other financial means come along.

@Amber - I am not doing the Belly Fat Cure -- just trying different things and seeing what works. Hopefully I can have the same results as you in the future!

Sorry about your grandmother.

As for the exercises, I wish I could chair dip. That's rad. My triceps are close to non-existent. Working on that.

And great job on the run! It's crazy how you can push your body huh? I'm going to try for 4 miles soon. It's getting easier and easier every day.

My condolences on the loss of your grandmother. It is wonderful that you used a positive action like exercise to help you cope in this time of sorrow. Too often we let sad situations lead to self destructive behaviors instead.

Way to go! Doesn't it feel great to see all that strength training pay off?

@Googie - she was a great person. Thanks!

@Stacie - they look great but they can be killer...especially the dips and squats

@Jess - Thanks...I continue to find out that we can push our bodies much farther than we thought.

@Missy - Thanks for the prayers...She would drift from being coherent to incoherent and what I believe to be a coherent moment - she said, "Take me home Lord"...her going peacefully was an answer to prayer.

@Ed - thanks man. It is never easy.

@Jeremy - Thanks. I'm going to try tonight - pictures will be up tonight of me trying to bench the couch...just wait and see.

@Steve - thanks for stopping by! It's always fun to see a new visitor -- Getting creative is a lot of fun...you invest yourself so much more into the workout (and its cheap)

@Randi - Thanks for your thoughts. I appreciate it.

@Karen - It's true - we let a lot of things break us down to where we neglect ourselves. I appreciate you stopping by.

@J.Darling - It feels great to see the pictures of myself doing those workouts. They may look a little weird b/c I'm doing lifts with a chair..but it is def. an accomplishment!

I'm very sorry to hear about your Grandma. No matter how old or how "ready" they are, it is still a profound loss.

Sorry to hear about your grandma. I am really close to my grandma (she is like a mother to me, almost more than my own), and I can't imagine the hurt I will feel when she goes. :(

I wanted to thank you for all the support over the last couple of weeks! I added you to my blogroll and will be following a bit more closely now. Thanks!

Sorry to hear about your Grandma, it's never easy. I only have one grandparent left and she turns 90 next month. She's in great health, 100% alert and even drives still. She's just great. Wife and I and my brother are traveling to South Carolina for the big get-together and I feel very fortunate to have her around.

Oh man, I loved my grammy immensely so I now it's a hard loss. As a tattoo I got her handwriting saying "Much love, your Gran xoxo"...that's how she signed all her cards.

Be in good spirits Seth!
