It put me put me in my place.
It took me out of my naïve-ness.
It showed me that I was not physically who I wanted to be.
It proved me a liar when I said I was fit.
It was honest.
It showed me that I did not control myself.
It called out to me to change myself.
I was probably winded after I tore it up.
It broke me.
It called me a failure.
I was embarrassed and ashamed to see it.
It hit me.
I wasn’t ugly, just fat.
I know that now.
I was not defeated.
I will not be defeated.
I am strong.
I am aware.
I am focused.
I am a success.
Can you accept yourself?

That's awesome, man. I really loved this post. Inspiring on so many levels.
Those kinds of pictures say a 1000 words, but your direct words say even more...room to be very proud Seth.
While I'm still working to by physically strong, I am proud to be mentally strong and confident that every day, I'm getting better and better (couldn't resist).

Getting Better and Better
I'm damn impressed by you!
And I'm proud to be a fit runner.
I am proud to be a warrior. I don't have any quit in me and I never have.
Look at you! All I can say is WOW SETH. What a difference. I'm glad you tore it up (then somehow glued it back together) because that isn't who you are and you aren't defined by that.
I'm proud of finishing my first 5K ever and with not that much training. I'm proud of finishing it in under 35 minutes. And I'm proud I officially registered for the 10K. And a June half marathon.
I'm literally running with it :)
Very cool. Congrats on getting control and taking control!!
Cheers,
Missa

Amazing post... great motivation. I am proud that I recognized that I needed to make a change and that I am committed to the process.
Thank you for sharing!
A fantastic, motivating post Seth! I am proud of my own achievements and proud of the fact that I can see I was being way too harsh on myself for chasing what I don't have and not appreciating what I do.
I am also proud of you!
Very motivating--Thank you for sharing!
I am proud to be taking control of my life!
Awesome post. It's inspiring to hear how someone felt at that moment they realized they needed to change and to see where they are now! Love your quote "I will not fall victim to the temporary and shallow delight that comes with overeating."
I guess I can take my "before" picture right now. I am no longer in denial. It is time to do something about it. Past time. Weirdly enough, I thought I WAS doing something - but it wasn't enough. I am proud that I am in my treadmill habit. That's getting upped. I'm adding strength training for my bones and toning. And dusting off my bike!
@Carol - I love you.
@Nicole - you are in shape. you are always hiking and motivating others to do it with you!
@Anthony - thanks.
@Kyle - you have to be mentally strong to do your 20+ mile hike. That's a lot of alone time - great job!
@Andrew -- I'd love to be able to run like you. I know it's possible too. Keep it up.
@Chris - I just read your new page on your site...I think the thing I liked most about it is that you ended it with encouragement for the people who just have started.
Great post!! It is so good to see you so motivated :) One thing I am proud of is being a great role model for my kids when they see their mom is active.
@Jess - tape works wonders. I found it in my work desk. Once I tore it up I knew that I would want it later so I just stuffed it in there. Half-Marathon...someday.
@Missa - thanks for stopping by. Taking control can be hard sometimes but def. worth it.
@Cassie - committment takes a continued evaluation of how you are doing. it's not easy - keep it up!
@JAG - You've had some crazy awesome results! Definitely an inspiration to loads of people.
@Forgettable - taking control can be very enlightening!
@Lora - thanks for coming over! the continued encouragement helps keep me going.
@ Sayre - the "before" picture is a must I say. It's so much easier to see how far you've come. It also helps in fighting off the desire to settle for something less.
@Staci - Thanks. You definitely are from what I can tell!
I am proud to be sticking with the C25K program, instead of wimping out and quitting like I often do with things that are hard.
Way to go, Seth!
That's wicked awesome. I have pictures like that too. Thanks for reminding us all that we are in control.
I am proud that even though the past month or so has been hard that I haven't given up!
Keep up the great work btw!
I am self-reliant!
You Rock My Man!
I'm proud that I no longer depend on food to make me happy...and that I have awesome blogging friends!
I am proud that I am starting to lose weight and realize when I over do it and get back on track. I love this post by the way.
Love a good before and after! You have a come a long way. Great job.
Wow, what a wonderful transformation! Awesome!
I am proud to be committed to getting healthy. It's been two years and I've made a lot of progress (70 pounds down). A little bit more to go, but I can and will do this!
Thanks for the inspiration!
Gees, Seth, what a fantastic post!
I am proud to be a Canadian! :D
I'm proud of my photos on my blog and I like that I can be witty and I like that I like nature and that I never give up ... despite the fact that I give up a lot. lol
Have a great day, Seth!
Somewhere I have hidden my photos that broke me. I have throw some away , torn some and or cropped myself out.
I am proud that I am becoming the athlete I was born to be.
BTW, I have a "this picture started it all"...it's on my web. It doesn't even look like me anymore.
Nor will I ever look like that again. Thanks for the great post!
