the question.
My wife asked me today a question right out of the blue, "do you think I can be a runner".
my answer.
I wasn't expecting it and I was like, "Yeah!"
I wanted to ask her a lot of questions, but she cut me off and said that we'd talk about it over dinner.
the results.
Dinner came and I couldn't wait to talk about it so I asked her if she wanted to start running. (You have to understand me here - I love running and she has never shown any interest really in it...so this is exciting to me). I told her why I thought she could be a runner and then I said that I'd run with her tonight. We let our food settle for a while and then got into some running clothes and we stretched. One of the ways that she tried to convince me to run with her was that running with her would be a good warmup for my run. She was right - it was. But before I get too far - we ran a mile tonight. We both know that running can be pretty difficult in the beginning, but with discipline - it will get easier. We stopped a few times, but that's okay because we were out there MOVING! I'm super proud of her. I'd say she ran about .6 of a mile. We finished that mile up in 13'17". She did great. So, Carol, can you be a runner? Yes. you. can.
and more.
After Carol and I finished our run I went for a run of my own. I got a PR today. I chose to run a 2 mile course and wanted to kill it - and I did. I ran 2 miles in 17'12". That is a 8'35" pace. This is by far the fastest 2 mile run I have done and it felt great! I think that warmup did help me out. If I was in a 5k race tonight and only had 1 mile left and only 17'12" had gone by --- I'd be booking it to finish big!
What is ONE thing that you just want to ROCK like nothing else?!!

I want to be a runner too! I don't know how to start or prepare for that. Maybe you could do a post of that for beginners
I want to ROCK my first 5k on saturday!
Two Mollys - Wow! We are awesome! I want to ROCK my 10K in October! I want to ROCK the scales when I hit my 50lb mark!!!
So happy for your wife! Have you ever heard of Jeff Galloway? He wrote "A Book on Running" I really like some of the things he suggests. Your wife may appreciate him too. He suggests walking and running. I walk for 1 minute and run 8 minutes. Depending on my distance I don't take walking breaks the last 2 miles. Walking for just 1 minutes is great for recovery.
Thanks for the inspiration!
I want to ROCK being a runner. I've just started and I'm on week 7 of C25k. I never dreamed I'd like it this much. I am very, very slow. My best mile has been 14 min so far, of course I'm still walking a little. My goal right now is to get to the point I can run the whole 5k. I'm planning on a real 5k race, my first, very soon.
I want to be a runner too.
i am at week 6 in C25K, running about 7.3 on the treadmill so kinds slow but will get there.
My goal is to finish my 1st 4k race without stopping
How great is that! Running with your spouse! I love the confidence you had in her, it most likely made her feel on top of the world!
YESSSSS! I am SO proud of your wife! WOW. I am so glad she just went out there and did it. Just tell her that running comes from the heart.
Every single person is a runner.
So proud of you BOTH for all the progress. You're inspiring every one who's life you touch. Beautiful.
One thing I want to ROCK? My marathon (so screwed).
My fiance runs with me from time to time. It's rare though, as he doesn't have that runner feeling. He gets bored. And I'm way too slow for him. ;) Way to warm up with your wife and the PR! Go You!
That's pretty awesome - my wife recently started running doing the C25K program, and I've been running with her whenever I can. As you said, it's usually a great warmup run for me, and it's great to be out there running with my wife!
You helped me be a runner *smile*. Always look back at that post you wrote and what I remember most was "it's ok to be slow" and "Focus your mind. There are times when my mind tells me to quit because my body “can’t handle it”. I push and my body handles it. The mind can be persuaded. Set your mind and control your actions." Those two bits of advice had me running for 30 mins straight that same night.
I don't have the love of running you do but it still felt great doing my first 5k and running the whole thing. You ROCK Seth!!!! Way to go to Carol too she's got the best motivator for getting her running.
How great that your wife is your new running partner! What a great thing to do together!!
That's awesome that Carol is running with you! I wish I had the will power to make myself do it....but I recently quit smoking....that's given me a lot of will power so maybe I could! Just have to start off slow :)
I wanted to let you know (if you don't know already) that there is a 2010 Susan G. Komen Mid-Missouri Race For The Cure 5K run/walk in Columbia on September 19th. When I heard about it I thought that might be right up your alley! You can register online at www.KomenMidMissouri.org.

You need to check out the Running to Disney podcast! Gordon is super inspirational. Start at the first couple episodes. You'll see (well, hear) his transformation.
PS. Don't forget to email me at jdarlingmusic@aol.com for your prize!
That is so awesome! Running with my wife has been one of the highlights of my fitness journey.
That is so cool! I am glad that the two of you can experience that together!
I want to try a 10K. But I don't think I have the stamina & endurance just yet.
I have been running now since March.. all 225 lbs of me. As long as you listen to your body and keep at it, it is totally doable. Totally! How cool you and your wife are partners in crime!
I am training for a half-marathon.. can't wait.
Cheers,
Missa

Seth you are amazig and I love the way you encourage others.
I know many people my age run but I have chosen to be a walker. I've listened to all the advice that says low impact is better/safer and since I have never been much of a runner that suits me.
I have always loved hiking especially in rough, steep country. I look forward to getting fir enough to do some moderately strenuous hikes again.
Blessings ... and you look good. I'm sure your improved health is having a positive impact on your ability pastor.
Success breeds success! How great that you got to run together. Sometimes my husband rides his bike while I run...those have been my favorite runs. :)
What do I want to rock? The 15K in four weeks. Oh yeah!
