...a chip fracture of a bone. It is on the Fibula bone on the inside lower part of my ankle. It looked rather long to me but the doctor said that the location of the fracture is pretty good. She said that it would heal pretty well and then proceeded to put my foot in a walking boot. I'm not sure of the technical name for the shoe -- but it goes up to a couple inches below my knee and helps me walk (so no more crutches).
I look really awkward walking now and will have to wear this thing for a couple weeks.
I took today off from working out but have been thinking of some ways that I can reach my goal. Here are some of my ideas:
- I will continue to do home workouts (I can still do squats being that I do not have to move my feet; push-ups will have to be one legged; I will make this work)
- I am thinking about putting my pedometer on during the day as my foot will continue to be healing so that I do not get way far behind on my goal. What do you guys think about this - is that cheating??
- I will eat the same way that I have been. I have noticed though today that I have been hungry and have craved foods outside of my approving. I did not give in to the Pizza Hut or the Taco Bell that I craved.
This is where I am at. I don't like this position but I have to deal and make the best of this.

cardio helps repress appetite.
Do you have access to a pool or something, maybe you could swim?
Also keep your protein intake really high and that will keep your cravings down, as will cutting out refined sugar and flour.

Keep your head up! Try and rest up, so that you don't have to be in that thing longer than possible! Hey, gives you a good excuse to do modified (girly) pushups, LOL. Kidding. I would say if you keep your eating in check, even if you can't get as much activity in you will be fun. Heal quick!
I don't know how I feel about doing squats while you're healing, but what do I know?
I know you have a goal to reach, and even if you're a little slower with it for a few weeks, you'll still be victorious in the end.
And if you need a little extra cardio, I like punching...You can punch the air while sitting and get your heart rate going.

Dude...that totally sucks...I hear that exercising the opposing limb will help to strengthen the other. Perhaps you can do some one legged balance exercises...you can do curls, shoulder presses, etc. while standing on the good leg. You could do reaches on the good leg. Stuff like that.
I support the pedometer idea. And if you can do it on ONE good foot, think about how much you could do on TWO.
Don't overexert yourself though, cause it's better to wait the few weeks and let it heal properly than to rush it and have it be a bother later on.
You'll still be able to do lots of exercises, like your gnarly tricep dips, you can still wall sit with one leg, plank, do ab work, push-ups, pull-ups. Damn. You're gonna be a beast once you're all healed.
Oh man, that is a bummer. I hope it heals quickly. Keep positive thoughts and try some new arm and core exercise. Hang in there...
Man that sucks! I would be in grave danger if something like that happened to me. Hopefully you can make it work for you!
That really sucks... Like I said on your last post... Take it easy. You don't want it to take longer healing. I would have totally given in to taco bell! You have much better self control than I do!

Putting the pedometer is not cheating! I think its great that your arent planning to stop! That is determination!
I wish I had the advice to give you during your recovery. I would say that you can do many modifications on weight training, but I am stumped as to cardio. I figure if I were in your position, I would do more of a focus on upper body training, and eating very well; down to the last calorie. I wish you a speedy recovery.
Good for you for not comforting yourself with food. I know that must have been a huge temptation.
And definitely keep wearing that pedometer. Even clompy, awkward steps count. :)
I say if you're not sitting on your ass feeling sorry for yourself while double fisting a pizza and taco bell and shoving them into your mouth at the same time...you're doing pretty damn good. ;)
Do what you can and no matter what, don't quit. Temporary glitch will be resolved soon enough. And I wouldn't consider the pedometer cheating at all. Take the wins where you can get them.

Sorry to hear about your injury. That stinks. I don't think it is cheating to use your pedometer to count your steps. I actually hurt my back this past weekend and had to learn to take it easy at the gym. I just wrote about it on my blog. I hope your foot heals fast.
Basketball is evil! I once lost a toenail to the sport, and got elbowed in the face by a mean boy. And those were the only two times I had ever played in my life :-(

Ouch! I rolled my ankle and broke my tibia AND fibula last may. I was unlucky and had 2 surgeries and 4 months of sitting on a couch! Hope you get better soon!
